How are you experiencing division or unity in your world of faith? What efforts can you make in God’s strength to keep the unity of the spirit?įather, you who are over all and through all and in all, live among us in such a way that spiritual unity will be present. We can’t reach “spiritual unity” through our own power but through God’s perfect power “That is at work within us.” We are to “be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love.” From a human perspective, it’s impossible to act in this way. ![]() This spiritual unity isn’t just simple camaraderie achieved through human strength. Primarily, they were to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” But those who were made “alive with Christ” were called to live out their new identity in practical ways. Sin would always bring trouble, selfish desires, and conflicts in relationships. The apostle Paul strongly encouraged the believers in the church in Ephesus to live in spiritual unity. It is truly a blessing when we can give cheerfully to those in need and receive cheerfully from those who just might have more than they need. They began to focus on what they agreed on rather than on what they disagreed on. What they did next may seem like a small choice, but it launched an incredible revival. Different perspectives on “Christianity” brought division. Within four years, more than 300 people came.īut instead of an ideal community for persecuted refugees, the settlement became filled with discord. The Holy Bible talks about unity once again in the Book of Ephesians 2:5. We are all in this together, so let us all unite to end homelessness for good. The Holy Bible talks about togetherness in the Book of Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” I myself think that we need spiritual unity on a national and international level to help tackle this hard-to-tackle issue of homelessness. First of all, what is the meaning of “spiritual unity?” Some of the definitions for “unity” provided in The Merriam-Webster Dictionary include “the quality or state of being made one (unification),” “a condition of harmony,” and “a combination or ordering of parts … that constitutes a whole.” Meanwhile, “spiritual” is defined as “of, relating to, consisting of, or affecting the spirit” and “related or joined in spirit.” ![]()
